A game to improve child's listening skills

Since the minute we wake up in the morning our brains try to follow instructions whether while completing tasks around the house or following teacher in the classroom or working with peers in the office.

It feels lovely to be able to communicate to your little child and how great it feels when he follows the instructions well! It is important for a small child to be able to follow instructions to work capably and be actively involved in the play with their friends.

A child requires to attend to detail, understand the language and remember the sequence to follow a simple instruction. I try and play simple games with my toddler to improve his listening skills. Now that I know he follows two steps well, I have slowly moved on to working with him on a 3 step (or 3 part) instruction games. This doesn't only improve child's listening skills but also fine motor and you get a chance to communicate to your child and introduce him to different material during every game.

This game is all about having to listen and follow directions. Only give directions your child can understand. Start simple.

All you need is:

1. 5 Recycled Bottles

 2. Marker Pen

 3. Colorful Pom-poms

Mark the bottles with numbers from 1-5. Make a 3 step instruction like- "Put green pom-pom in bottle number four".

 The three parts are:

 1. Action- Put

 2. Color- Green

 3. Number- four

And let your child decode the instruction and have fun with the activity!

Learning opportunities:

 1. Listening skills

 2. Following directions

 3. Fine motor skills

 4. Memory is challenged
