DIY Construction Hat

I crafted a construction hat (or hard hat) last weekend as I did a sensory play activity- Construction Site for my toddler. The hat is made using recycled material.

And that big smile my little boy gave me looking at it, beyond the words happiness! How great it feels when your kids appreciate your efforts and like your craft! Isn't it mommies?

All you need is:

1. Waste white paper sheets to recycle
2. Cardboard to recycle (I used one that came as a packing for a gift item)
3. Glue
4. Yellow acrylic paint
5. Pair of scissors
6. Balloon
7. Pencil

To make:

1. Tear the waste white paper sheets into small pieces with hand

2. Blow the balloon to the size of your child's head

3. Apply glue to the top half portion of the balloon and stick the paper pieces onto it.

4. Allow it to dry

5. Add two more layers of paper pieces with glue and allow them to dry

6. After the third layer is dry, burst the balloon with scissor

7. Trim around half an inch of the edge to give a smooth finish

8. Place it onto the cardboard and with a pencil mark a hat shape around the paper bowl

9. Cut it with the scissor. Also cut a small square piece from the remaining cardboard and stick it in the middle.

10. Stick the paper bowl onto the cardboard cut-out

11. Paint the hat with yellow acrylic paint and allow it to dry

12 Ta-da! Surprise your little construction worker!
